Warrington, PA – (no media coverage) Fire sprinkler activation at apartment controls fire, saves property

We recently responded to a service call for a sprinkler activation in an apartment building due to a fire. Upon arrival it was discovered a single 1999 Viking Model M residential pendant sprinkler had activated to control the small fire in the dwelling unit. The head was replaced and the system was placed back in service and the residents returned to their apartments. Without the activation of the sprinkler system, in the Type V (wood frame) structure, serious injury to the tenants could have occurred and the building would have sustained significant damage. Ironically the wet fire sprinkler system had just been inspected the week before. Once again a properly installed and maintained water based fire sprinkler system saves lives and property.

Rapid City, SD – Single sprinkler head controls cooking fire from grill at apartment complex

A sprinkler system has again helped to extinguish a fire in a Rapid City apartment building.

When Rapid City firefighters responded to a report of a fire around 10 a.m. Sunday at 4226 Kateland St., they found light smoke and water flowing from an outside deck of the three-story apartment, according to a news release. Four of the incidents happened in apartment buildings, one was at a correctional facility and one was at a large commercial building. The most recent incident happened last Friday, when a sprinkler system helped put out a fire in a second-floor bedroom.

Knoxville, TN – Fire sprinkler system contains fire at apartment complex

The Knoxville Fire Department responded to a fire that occurred in the early evening on Saturday.

The apartment fire took place at the Tenn Student Living Complex located on Cumberland Avenue.

KFD correspondent Mark Wilbanks says that a “cooking incident” started the fire causing the apartment’s sprinkler to go off. The apartment below was also affected due to some pretty severe flooding.

Student Carson Jinks is a resident of the apartment below the unit on fire. She explains that her room has been completely flooded due to the incident.

“I started hearing a weird noise around my shower and all the sudden water just started spewing from the vents in my bathroom. Now there’s water under all of my carpets and coming through the walls into the living room and kitchen. There’s basically a lake in my living room,” said Jinks.

The residents of the unit in which the fire occurred explained that they are being moved into the Volunteer Hotel located on Cumberland avenue at UT until further notice.

Residents of the complex have been safely evacuated from the building while KFD works on the incident.
