Rockford, IL – Sprinkler system contains fourth floor apartment fire; No injuries reported

Rockford firefighters dispatched just after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday to the 2100 block of Kishwaukee Street for a kitchen fire.

Units first on scene say black smoke rolled out of a fourth floor apartment fire that started in the kitchen, but was mostly self contained the building sprinkler system.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. Residents on the fourth floor were moved to lower levels, but no other evacuations were necessary.

College Station, TX – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment complex; No injuries reported

College Station firefighters had to force their way inside an apartment to get to a fire. Four people living in two units at the Zone apartments were displaced by the Saturday afternoon fire. A fire sprinkler system was going, which kept a kitchen fire in check. The firefighter’s work included rescuing a dog. No one was inside the apartment where the fire took place.

Oklahoma City, OK – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at apartment complex; No injuries reported

Crews responded to a commercial fire at the Oklahoma City Housing Authority complex Tuesday morning in southwest Oklahoma City.

Around 8 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters responded to a smoke investigation at the Andrews Square Apartments near Southwest 22nd Street and Robinson Avenue. Crews arrived and found smoke on the fourth floor.

Authorities said firefighters went to the fourth floor and learned the flames were contained in one room. The room’s sprinkler head activated and put out the fire, officials said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Bedford, NH – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment building; No injuries reported

Bedford fire, and police responded to a call for fire alarms that were activated at 15 Iron Horse Drive, Unit B, on Sunday.

While en route, at about 4 p.m. responding units were advised callers could see smoke from outside the building, and smoke was filling the hallways.

Firefighters arrived and had smoke showing from some of the second-floor windows, and the sprinkler system activated in part of the building. Merrimack firefighters were also requested to respond with additional apparatus and other towns responded for station coverage.

Several people were evacuating the building on their own, and firefighters and police officers went from apartment to apartment, evacuating those occupants that had remained inside the building.

Firefighters made entry into a second-floor apartment that appeared to be the source of the smoke. They located a burning couch that the sprinkler system had mostly extinguished and a heavy smoke condition in the apartment and in the hallway.

Crews removed the couch and pushed it off the second-floor balcony, and opened windows to allow smoke to clear. Fans were used to eject smoke from the apartment and hallways.

A large group of residents watched from the parking lot as firefighters fought the fire, and water poured out of the building from the sprinkler system.

The fire appears to have been limited to a single apartment, but several apartments had water damage from the activated sprinkler system. Bedford fire said many people would be displaced from the large multi-unit apartment building.

The fire was brought under control within about 30 minutes, and it did not appear any occupants or firefighters were injured.

The fire will be investigated by the Bedford Fire Department.

Miami, FL – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at apartment building; No injuries reported

An investigation is underway after a fire broke out inside a Miami apartment building.

It happened along 79th Street and Northeast Bayshore Court, at around 8 p.m., Monday.

Miami Fire Rescue and Police discovered illegal drugs once they got inside the unit.

They also said the building’s sprinkler system put out the flames before they arrived.

No injuries were reported.

There is no word on any arrests made.

Martinsville, VA – Sprinkler system prevents fire from spreading at apartment complex

At approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday, Martinsville Fire & EMS responded to a structure fire at an apartment complex located at 1032 Mountain Road, Martinsville.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire coming from apartment #3 of the complex. The Martinsville Police Department evacuated tenants from the apartment complex, as all tenants made it out safely. Assistance was received from the Martinsville Police Department, Martinsville Electric Department, Henry County Department of Public Safety and Dyer’s Store Volunteer Fire Department. The local chapter of the American Red Cross also responded to assist the eight tenants who were displaced.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental with it originating in the kitchen, near the stove, due to unattended cooking. Martinsville Fire & EMS reminds everyone to be extra cautious while cooking.

“Unattended cooking remains our number one cause of accidental fires. Make sure you never leave a cooking appliance unattended while it is in use,” said Martinsville Fire Chief Ted Anderson.

That is the second time fire departments have responded to apartment complexes in recent days. On Saturday, agencies responded to a 7:30 p.m. call of smoke coming out of Apartment 19 on East Church Street, behind Piedmont Community Services and Daily Grind in Martinsville.

The occupant was outside when firefighters arrived. The apartment’s sprinkler system activated and prevented the fire from spreading. The cause of the fire is accidental, stated City of Martinsville Public Information Officer Kendall Davis.

McKinney, TX – Sprinkler system activated for kitchen fire at apartment complex; No injuries reported

The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) responded to a report of a water flow alarm at the Soho Parkway Apartments on Saturday.

Firefighters arrived to find that a fire sprinkler in the kitchen activated and successfully extinguished a fire – keeping the flames from spreading to the rest of the apartment. There were no injuries reported and damage was limited to the area around the stove.

Sioux Falls, SD – Sprinkler system activated for apartment fire; No injuries reported

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is looking into an apartment fire Sunday evening.

The incident happened at 4800 East. 54th Street.

The first units spotted smoke in an apartment. Firefighters located the fire in a third story apartment.

The sprinkler system activated and contained the fire to a small area.

No one was hurt.

On Sunday, March 20, 2022, at 6:05 PM Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a fire alarm activation at 4800 E. 54th Street.

The first arriving unit discovered an apartment building with light smoke on the third floor, and the incident was upgraded to a structure fire. A fire was located in a third story apartment, with no residents present in the apartment. Other residents from the building had exited. The sprinkler system in the apartment had activated and contained the fire to a small area. The fire was quickly and completely extinguished, and the building was cleared of smoke. No injuries were reported, and several residents were displaced.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 4 fire trucks, 3 support vehicles, and 21 personnel. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted by Metro Communications, Sioux Falls Police Department, Patient Care EMS, and Mid-American Energy.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to test their smoke and CO detectors on a monthly basis.

Utica, NY – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment complex

A family of three was displaced following a fire at the West Street Apartments in Utica Sunday.

Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll says his crews arrived at the complex around 1 p.m. to find a small fire in a third-floor apartment.

The sprinkler system in the building was triggered and kept the flames under control until firefighters could extinguish them completely. The sprinklers did cause some water damage to the second and third floors.

Ingersoll says the cause is still under investigation.

The one adult and two children who lived in the apartment are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Racine, WI – Sprinkler system activated for furniture fire near apartment building; No injuries reported

Burning discarded furniture outside McMynn Tower Apartments, 110 Seventh St., filled the building with smoke late Friday evening. No one was injured.

The Racine Fire Department (RFD) responded shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday to a report of a fire at the building’s north exit. Firefighters quickly extinguished the burning materials.

Smoke and heat from the burning furniture entered a stairwell to the 11-story, 124-unit building but a fire sprinkler head and an alarm system protected the building’s occupants. The fire was under control within about 20 minutes. Firefighters used positive pressure ventilation fans to remove smoke from the building.

The fire caused an estimated $40,000 damage to the structure and $3,000 to contents.
