Sprinkler system extinguishes church fire (Salt Lake City, UT)

A fire that broke out in the mechanical room of a church was extinguished by the building’s fire sprinkler system before fire crews arrived, reported the Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesperson Jasen Asay. No injuries were reported.

The fire was in a paper storage area and when firefighters got to the scene the automated sprinkler system had already been activated.

Firefighters said the sprinkler system kept the fire under control until they were able to completely extinguish it.

No injuries reported. A food warmer caught fire in the hallway outside the locker rooms. The building did not need to be evacuated, Boardwalk Hall General Manager Greg Tesone said. “The sprinkler system came on like it was supposed to,” Tesone said. “By the time the fire department got here it was already out.”

Firefighters rushed out to the Lexington Athletic Club early Thursday morning, but sprinklers did their job before crews even arrived. Officials say towels caught fire inside a dryer. The sprinkler system inside the laundry room doused the flames. There were no reported injuries.
