Dallas, TX – Sprinkler system activated for fire at office building

Dallas Fire Officials say someone set an uptown Dallas office building on fire early Tuesday morning.

The building located just off the Central Expressway access road between Blackburn and Fitzhugh Ave was surrounded by emergency vehicles around 4:00 a.m.

Officials say the building’s automatic sprinkler system was activated after an unknown suspect threw an explosive device, a so-called molotov cocktail, through an exterior window.

Jason Evans with Dallas Fire says crews were able to have the flames completely extinguished in 20 minutes.

They’re still trying to figure out who the arsonist is, and what their motive was.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the fire as the building was empty due to the time of day it happened.

One firefighter was actually injured, but not by flames. Evans says the individual was hurt while mopping up afterwards and had to be taken to the hospital.

West Palm Beach, FL – Sprinkler system extinguishes dryer fire at hair salon; No injuries reported

These firefighters saved the day in more ways than one.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to a report of a fire at a hair salon in South Florida on Friday.

The building had to be evacuated after a dryer caught fire, setting off the fire alarm and sprinkler system.

But for one client in the hair salon, time was of the essence, firefighters said.

“She had chemicals in her hair that had to be washed out on time,” the fire department wrote.

Once firefighters determined that the situation was under control, they ran a hose from the water in their fire engine to make sure the hairstylist could properly rinse her client’s hair.

“This is a first! What you have to do when the building catches on fire and clients have color in their hair,” one woman from the salon can be heard saying in the video on the agency’s Facebook page. “Thank you, Palm Beach County Fire Department!”

Firefighters said the building’s sprinkler system put out the dryer fire, and no one was injured.

Rochester, MN – Sprinkler system activated for fire at church; No injuries reported

An early Monday fire in the basement of a Rochester church caused considerable damage, but an alarm system and sprinklers kept things from becoming worse.

Alerted to a blaze at Peace United Church of Christ just after 2 a.m., firefighters arrived to find thick black smoke filling the building at 1503 2nd Av. NE., Fire Department spokesman K.C. Clark said.

The fire broke out in the church’s lower level between the sanctuary and an attached preschool. A portable water extinguisher was used to put out the main fire. An overhead sprinkler that had activated before firefighters arrived helped keep the fire from spreading, Clark said.

Damage was mainly confined to the area of the blaze, but there was a significant smoke on the main and lower levels, Clark said.

“Nearly all parts of the church will need remediation due to the smoke,” Clark said. “Things might have been much worse had the church not had an automatic smoke and fire alarm. Had the building not been protected by an alarm system, it is likely the building would have sustained significant fire damage.”

No one was in the building at the time, and no firefighters were hurt, Clark said.

A damage estimate was not immediately available. Officials have not determined a cause.

Addison, IL – Sprinkler system activated for fire at recycling facility; No injuries reported

No injuries were reported after fire broke out Saturday evening at a paper recycling facility in Addison.

The Addison Fire Protection District said crews responding to an activated fire alarm at the facility, which reports place in the 1700 block of West Fullerton Avenue, arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the building.

While the facility’s sprinkler system helped to contain the blaze, firefighters pulled several large hose lines into the building to extinguish the flames, fire officials said.

Once skylights and overhead doors were opened, fire crews used front end loaders to remove tons of burning paper from the building. A 30-foot by 30-foot area of burning shredded paper was found in the building, firefighters said.

Macon-Bibb fire crews responded to a blaze at a South Macon business on Monday.

Fire Chief Shane Edwards says it happened at Down River Load Solutions on Joe Tamplin Blvd.

Firefighters were dispatched around 10:40 a.m.

The first units to get to the scene were told that a machine had caught fire but the building’s sprinkler system extinguished most of it.

Firefighters executed fireground operations and no injuries were reported. The business took minimal damage.

Brossard, QC, Canada – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at mosque; No injuries reported

An early morning fire at the Islamic Community Centre on Grande Allee Blvd. in Brossard, Que., was most likely started by an electrical issue, according to Longueuil Police.

Firefighters arrived at the mosque around 1a.m Saturday morning. The fire was already being extinguished by the building’s emergency sprinkler system. Firefighters were able to control the blaze in about 30 minutes.

Denver, CO – Sprinkler system activated for fire at Denver Broncos stadium; No injuries reported

A fire that broke out in the home stadium of the NFL’s Denver Broncos destroyed rows of seats and damaged a suite area on Thursday, authorities said.

The Denver Fire Department responded to Empower Field at Mile High at about 2:15 p.m. MDT, Capt. Greg Pixley told The Denver Post. The fire was extinguished approximately 30 minutes later as firefighters and the stadium’s sprinkler system brought the blaze under control.

“This fire burned very hot. We’re lucky the sprinkler system started to hold the fire in check,” Pixley told the newspaper. “This was a significant fire.”

Stadium officials said in a statement on Twitter that the fire occurred in a construction zone near the East Club Lounge. Pixley said the fire ignited on the fourth level of the stadium and spread to the third-level seats, KDVR-TV reported. Smoke interrupted an event on the second floor that had about 100 people in attendance, but there are no reports of injuries, the television station reported.

Pixley said the sprinkler system was activated in the indoor seating area, but there was no sprinkler system over the exposed stadium seats, according to the Post.

That exposed the stadium’s plastic seats to the blaze.

“This type of plastic that the seats are composed of burns with not only significant ferocity, very large flames, but also produces a tremendous amount of black smoke,” Pixley told reporters.

Six rows of seats in two sections near the suites were destroyed, KCNC-TV reported.

Staunton, VA – Sprinkler system activated for vehicle fire in building

Crews responded to a fire this evening at Roto-Rooter Plumbing in Staunton as a service vehicle caught fire in one of the bays of the building. Everyone in the building got out safely but one person was sent to Augusta Health for smoke inhalation.

“The building had a sprinkler system so it activated and kept the fire to the vehicle. We only had minor heat damage to two adjacent vehicles and to the structural members above it but it was minimal due to the sprinkler system activating,” said Greg Schacht, Augusta County Fire Chief. No word yet on what caused the fire.

Auburn, NY – Sprinkler system activated for overnight fire at automotive repair shop; No injuries reported

The work of firefighters and a functioning sprinkler system kept an overnight fire at a downtown Auburn automotive repair shop from causing structural damage to the main building.

The Auburn Fire Department responded to a call made by the Auburn Police Department at 11:59 p.m. Monday for a fire at Trombley’s Automotive Services at 10 E. Garden St., AFD Chief Mark Fritz said.

Firefighters encountered an exterior blaze on the east side of the building and had it extinguished within roughly an hour, Fritz said.

The fire appeared to have started in a wooden enclosure outside the building that was used to store tires. Investigators were still working to determine how it started as of Tuesday afternoon.

Fritz said the fire did not cause any structural damage to the building. One reason for that was the building’s sprinkler system, which has sprinkler heads at every window.

“That operated as it should and kept the fire from going into the building,” Fritz said.

The chief said there were no reports of injuries.

Because the fire damage was limited, Trombley’s was open for business as usual on Tuesday morning.

Attleboro, MA – Sprinkler system contains fire in building; No injuries reported

An electrical machine caught fire early Monday morning at Sensata Technologies on Pleasant Street.

The sprinkler system in the building at 533 Pleasant St., contained the fire but smoke filled the third floor, where the machine is located, Deputy Fire Chief Tim Birch said Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators estimated the fire, which was reported about 12:15 a.m. Monday, caused between $75,000 and $100,000 damage.

The machine was not operating at the time but was plugged into an electrical socket, Birch said.

Firefighters spent about three hours at the scene investigating and clearing smoke from the building.

The exact cause was undetermined but it appeared to be an accident, Birch said.
