An intentionally set fire extinguished by sprinkler system (Moultrie, GA)

A sprinkler system that activated early Tuesday morning put out a blaze at a local daily newspaper.  The alarm company had notified the fire department who were quick to the scene to find that the sprinkler system had put out a fire that had ignited on the back dock.  “It did what it was supposed to do,” one of the firemen told Walden, in reference to the sprinkler system.

The main body of the fire, contained to the underside of a kitchen counter, was controlled by the sprinkler system. The rest of the fire was extinguished within 15 minutes.  Though occupants were evacuated as a result of the fire, the release said there were no injuries and the fire did not leave the commercial portion of the building.

Fire fighters searched the building for the fire and within 15 minutes located and extinguished a fire in the attic space between the third-floor ceiling and the roof of the building. A fire sprinkler had also activated in the room below the fire. Fire damage was contained to the ceiling and attic space immediately above the approximately 10′ x10′ room of an unoccupied third-floor office suite.

Fire at office building controlled by single sprinkler (Lake Zurich, IL)

At 2012 hours on April 17, 2012, the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department
received a fire alarm from the Offices of Deer Park Office building. Upon
arrival it was discovered that one sprinkler head had activated outside the
south stairwell on the second floor. A fire had started from workmen leaving a
pile of rags in the corner after using them to stain a brand new floor in
an  office build-out. A rug and drywall were burned along with minimal water
damage  to the floor.

“The sprinkler system did its job. One head controlled what could of been
a devastating fire with major damage. Tenants were back to work the next day
without interruption. Damage was estimated at less than $10,000.00. A
great save of a million dollar three story office building.”

Sprinkler system averts major fire (Yankton, SD)

A minor fire that could have turned into a big problem was extinguished by a Yankton firm’s sprinkler system Sunday morning.

A gas-fired evaporator had malfunctioned, igniting some combustible items in the immediate area and setting off the alarm. Thanks to the sprinkler system, there was minimal damage from the fire. “Everything did what is was suppose to do,” Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickels said. “That could have been a very bad fire for that business.”
