Sprinkler system puts out fire at nuclear power plant (Shippingport, PA)

A nuclear power plant had an explosion as well as an electrical wiring fire occur on the evening of Tuesday, November 5. No one was injured, and the plant did not need to be evacuated; the plant did shut down to assess the incident. The plant’s fire sprinkler system, a deluge system, put out the fire, and the reactor at the plant was manually shut down. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Damage minimized at manufacturing plant thanks to fire sprinklers (Lancaster, PA)

Fire sprinklers contained a blaze that began at a manufacturing plant on Sunday, October 6. Just after 10:30 p.m., an oil-heating machine overheated, which started the fire. The fire sprinkler system activated and kept the fire in that area, and an employee used a fire extinguisher to put out the rest of it. The other employees who were in the manufacturing plant at the time were able to safely evacuate, and no injuries were reported.

A fire broke out at Carolina Yarn Processors (CYP) in Tryon Saturday, Sept. 28 after a tote leaked hydrogen peroxide, according to Tryon Fire Department reports.  Damage was contained to under $1,000 and the plant was operating on Monday, Sept. 30.  Davis said the sprinkler system and quick response kept damage to the plant minimal.

*** FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED – NO MEDIA COVERAGE *** A fire which broke out in a metal fabrication plant on Friday, August 16 was limited, and the credit is being given to the building’s fire sprinkler system. A spark which occurred while grinding metal ignited the exhaust system filters, and the fire sprinklers extinguished the fire. The damage was limited to some product, and employees were able to resume work the same day.

Sprinklers make the difference in manufacturing plant fire (Prescott, AZ)

When a fire broke out in a manufacturing plant the afternoon of August 13, several fire crews came out to suppress the flames. The origin of the fire was in the ventilation system behind a sanding machine, and the flames climbed up the wall to the ceiling. Two sprinkler heads activated and contained the blaze.

Fire Marshall Rick Chase said, “Without those sprinkler heads going off, it could have easily been really bad.” 

There were no injuries.
