Fire contained by sprinklers at engineered wood products manufacturer (Medford, OR)

Sparks from a grinding operation started a fire that ignited in two connected sawdust bins at Boise Cascade. “Really the initial knockdown happened with the automatic sprinkler system,” said Arlen Blenkush, District No. 3 battalion chief. The fire was contained to the inside of the bins and did not damage the structure’s exterior.

“This is a clear example of how sprinkler systems can help save property,” said Sullivan fire chief, Rich White, following an early morning fire at Sullivan Precision Metal Finishing. “The sprinkler system inside the manufacturing plant had contained the fire to the specific area. Our firefighters were able to finish extinguishing the fire and then provided overhaul/cleanup of the area, along with checking for any fire extensions.”

A fire at a stainless steel and aluminum parts and products manufacturer was contained to a dust collector located outside the building, according to the Sheboygan Fire Department. Deputy Chief Charles Butler said the blaze was controlled by the building’s sprinkler system before the fire department arrived. The company’s employees evacuated immediately and there were no injuries.

Sprinkler system aids firefighters during manufacturing plant fire (Urbana, IL)

A malfunctioning machine at the Solo Cup plant in east Urbana sparked a fire Thursday morning that caused moderate damage.

Urbana Fire Chief Mike Dilley said a combination of sprinkler heads inside the plant and firefirefighters’ hose lines kept the fire from being any worse than it was. All the workers in the plant were safely evacuated.

Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at cabinet-making business (Sacramento, CA)

A sprinkler system was credited with extinguishing a fire at a Rancho Cordova cabinet manufacturing business Monday night.  After forcing their way inside, firefighters found that a small fire at a work station had activated a sprinkler head and the fire had been extinguished.  No one was in the building when fire crews arrived.

Damage minimized at aluminum fabricator fire thanks to sprinkler system (Beloit, WI)

American Aluminum Extrusion’s sprinkler system did its job, according to Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Hedrington.  “We had smoke 60 feet above the building when we were responding, but we didn’t see any fire because the sprinkler system did its job and knocked its down,” Hedrington said. “The sprinklers usually just kept it in check, but it did a great job.”  All employees were safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.
