At 5:45 Thursday evening the Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to Elite Laundry at 809 South Orchard for an automatic alarm. Upon arrival firefighters reported nothing showing from the exterior. Firefighters quickly made entry into the building to investigate and was met with light smoke conditions at the front of the building. Firefighters continued farther into the building and the smoke conditions were getting worse towards the back of the building. Firefighters were able to quickly find the location of the fire and determine the sprinkler system had activated and contained the fire to the area of origin. Fire crews removed smoldering materials and cleared smoke from the building. The Clinton Fire Department is grateful the sprinkler system had been maintained and functioned properly, which contained the fire and prevented it from growing into what could have been a major incident.
