Wenatchee, WA – Sprinkler system activated for fire in machinery room; No injuries reported

A fire this morning in the packing line facility at Stemilt Growers halted production temporarily, but left no one injured.

Wenatchee Valley Fire Chief Brian Brett says the fire in a machinery room at the Euclid Avenue complex was reported about 7:53 a.m. But fire suppression systems at the warehouse helped calm the flames, while Stemilt’s emergency protocols got more than 100 people safely out of the building before firefighters arrived.

“Fortunately, the maintenance personnel working there, they shut the breaker off to the machine room where the fire originated,” Brett told NCWLIFE. “A sprinkler head activated, which contained the fire just as they’re supposed to do.”

Brett says the attention to fire protocols in the facility “alleviates a lot of stress for us, because then we know we’re not going in not only to suppress the fire, but to have to look for occupants as well. We can focus exclusively on suppressing the fire.”

Winnipeg, MB, Canada – Sprinkler system activated for fire at condo building; No injuries reported

No one was injured following a fire Monday evening in a Leila North condo building. 

The fire broke out just after 8 p.m. in a four-storey condo building in the 1200 block of Leila Avenue.

The condo’s sprinkler system knocked out most of the fire before crews arrived. Firefighters finished putting out the fire and it was declared under control about an hour later.

Residents took shelter in the lobby while crews put the fire out. No one was injured.

It’s believed the fire was accidental, related to lithium-ion batteries.

Spring Hill, TN – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment complex

The Spring Hill Fire Department responded swiftly and effectively to a morning fire at a third-floor apartment at Worthington Glen Apartments, where they rescued a dog and two cats. Thanks to the rapid response and the assistance of the sprinkler system, the fire was contained, preventing any casualties.

The fire was dispatched at 11:21am Monday morning, fortunately, broke out while no residents were present in the apartment. However, the presence of beloved pets left behind prompted firefighters to take immediate action to ensure their safety. Firefighters managed to locate and safely evacuate the pets, much to the relief of the owners.

The sprinkler system played a crucial role in containing the fire, minimizing its spread to neighboring units. While the third-floor apartment sustained fire damage, the lower apartments experienced water damage as a result of the sprinkler system’s activation. Damage to the building is estimated to be around $150,000. The Fire Marshal determined one of the cats possibly turned the stove on and started the fire.

Worthington Glen is taking proactive measures to assist affected residents. Management is relocating residents to other available apartments within the complex to ensure their comfort and safety while repairs are underway.

Bend, OR – Sprinkler system activated for fire at clubhouse; No injuries reported

Firefighters battle a fire at Juniper Preserve Friday evening.

Redmond Fire & Rescue responded to a structure fire around 5:30 p.m.

Juniper Preserve staff quickly evacuated the building of guests.

As fire crews arrived there was visible smoke coming from the roof of the building and made a quick attack on the fire, but had to quickly evacuate the building due to the collapse of a chimney onto the roof.

The buildings fire sprinkler system was able to help keep the fire in check and crews were able to access the void areas in the roof.

We learned no one was hurt during the fire.

Officials think it possibly started when fireplace fire burned into the walls and then up into the roof.

Redmond Fire says the vaulted ceilings made it more challenging to figure out exactly the best attack.

Redmond Fire & Rescue was assisted by Bend Fire & Rescue, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Sunriver Fire & Rescue.

Marshfield, WI – Sprinkler system activated for fire at door manufacturing facility

One person was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire at a Marshfield business Wednesday morning.

Crews responded to a report of a fire at Masonite Architectural, a door manufacturer at approximately 9:50 a.m. When crews arrived they found a large particle board press on fire. A press release said the fire sprinkler system was activated, containing the fire while crews extinguished the press fire. However, the fire spread to the attic through the ductwork. To put out those flames a ladder truck was used to access the roof of the building. An additional fire was put out in another piece of machinery.

The location of the fire within the building made it difficult for crews to reach and extinguish the flames. As a result, crews were on the scene for 6.5 hours. One Masonite employee was treated and released for smoke inhalation. No fire service personnel were injured.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.

Crews from the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department and the Vesper Fire Department responded.

Aurora, IL – Sprinkler system controls fire near building’s loading dock; No injuries reported

A fire in a strip mall store near Fox Valley Mall in Aurora last Wednesday was contained before it could spread to other buildings, officials said.

At around 10 p.m., the Aurora Fire Department responded to the fire after it was called in by an employee of the store, which is located in the 4300 block of Fox Valley Center Drive, according to a news release from the fire department.

When firefighters arrived, they found the fire in the back of the building near a loading dock, but it was being controlled by the building’s sprinkler system and had not spread to nearby stores, the release said. The remaining fire was then put out, officials said.

All employees had evacuated the building before firefighters arrived, and no one was hurt in the fire, according to the release.

Four engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units and three chief officers responded to the fire, the release said.

According to officials, the fire remains under investigation by the Aurora Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Team.

Chambersburg, PA – Sprinkler system activated for fire at sheet manufacturing facility

A fire broke out Friday morning at a business in Franklin County.

Chambersburg Fire Department was dispatched at 9:58 a.m. to Keystone Sheets, 1465 Nitterhouse Drive, Chambersburg, according to a news release from the fire department. Staff reported that the dust collection system was on fire.

Firefighters arriving at the scene did not see anything on the building’s exterior, but inside they encountered flames in three pieces of machinery and the connected dust collection system.

The building’s sprinkler system prevented the fire from extending to the rest of the duct system and the building, the fire department said.

The fire was under control as of 10:35 a.m. Crews remained on the scene for about two hours to extinguish hot spots. The scene was cleared at 1 p.m.

The building remained under normal operation during the fire, however, the business temporarily shut down for clean-up and repairs to be completed.

Companies from throughout the county responded to the scene, including Franklin, Fayetteville, Marion, Letterkenny, New Franklin, Pleasant Hall and West End fire and EMS departments, and WellSpan Health EMS and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office rehab unit.

A voicemail message left at Keystone Sheets Monday was not immediately returned.

Keystone Sheets manufactures corrugated sheets, or cardboard used to make boxes and other packaging.

Hudson, MA – Sprinkler system helps contain fire from explosion

An explosion at a business in Hudson, Massachusetts, left one person hurt Monday afternoon, according to the town’s police department.

The Hudson Police Department confirmed that it responded to a commercial garage on Forest Avenue at around 11:30 a.m. When they arrived there was heavy smoke coming out of the building and fire inside. Fire officials said the sprinkler system helped contain the fire so crews were able to extinguish it.

One person was taken to the hospital. The severity of their injuries was not immediately clear.

The case is under investigation by the Fire District 14 investigation unit, the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Unit Investigation Team, as well as Hudson Fire and Hudson Police.

More details were not immediately available.

South Burlington, VT – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment garage; No injuries reported

A car fire inside a South Burlington garage on Monday afternoon closed down a road and forced residents to evacuate an apartment complex.

The call came around 1 p.m. after fire officials were notified the sprinkler and alarm system were activated in the lower level garage at the O’Dell Apartments off Farrell Street.

It’s not clear what started the fire but smoke rose into the upper levels of the building, which forced people out for several hours.

“Obviously, since it’s chilly out, people don’t necessarily want to leave, so it took a little bit of work with help from our police officers to get everyone out of the building,” South Burlington Deputy Fire Chief Chris Corbin said.

Officials say no one was injured and the road has since reopened.

North Platte, NE – Sprinkler system activated for fire at linen company; No injuries reported

At 5:15 p.m. Saturday evening, The North Platte Fire Department received a call of a fire at Ideal Linen and Uniform.

According to battalion chief Jeff Hankla, the fire was caused by dirty and oily linens that caused a spontaneous combustion. No one was injured.

Hankla also said that the sprinkler system knocked the fire down and the department put it out. The sprinkler system also saved the frame and structure of the building as well. The fire was extinguished about 10 minutes after the dispatch received the call.

Employees who work at Ideal Linen and Uniform were allowed back into the building just after 6:30 p.m.
