Sprinklers assist firefighters in retirement home fire (Tucson, AZ)

A three-story retirement home reported a fire the morning of Friday, May 16. Smoke filled the first floor, and firefighters responded to the water flow alarm at the building. The facility was equipped with fire sprinklers, which extinguished most of the fire; firefighters arrived and put out the rest. A fire inspector reported that the cause of the fire was accidental; oil soaked towels spontaneously ignited because of a chemical reaction. There were no injuries reported.

Sprinklers make the difference in fire at retail store (College Station, TX)

A mid-morning fire was reported in the storage room of a retail store on Thursday, May 7. Fire crews responded within a few minutes to the scene, and they found that the fire had been contained to a small area by the building’s fire sprinklers. The first responders were able to quickly put out the rest of the fire. No injuries were reported in the incident, and the cause of the College Station Fire Marshal’s office determined that the fire was caused by the failure of a control wire in the HVAC system.

Apartment fire stopped by sprinklers (Niles, MI)

An fire erupted in the unit of an apartment on Friday morning, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The fire sprinkler activated in that unit, eliminating the fire before the fire crews arrived. 

Niles Fire Chief Larry Lamb said that there was minor minor smoke and fire damage thanks to the fire sprinkler. 

“You can see that the damage is a lot less extensive when we have sprinkler systems in place to protect our occupants.” Lamb said.

The fire was caused when the resident of the unit accidentally caught a vinyl shower curtain on fire with a match.

Condominium fire squelched thanks to fire sprinklers (Hampton, NH)

A four-story condominium caught fire on Monday morning on one of the unit’s enclosed porches. Investigators believe that the fire began around or above an exterior light on the underside of a second story porch. The heat from the fire activated the condominium’s fire sprinkler system, which Hampton Fire Chief reported helped to contain the fire to the porch area. No injuries were reported.
