D.C. Fire and EMS crews were called for a fire on the sixth floor of the 10-story GSA Regional Office Building at 301 7th St. SW. It wasn’t immediately known what time they were called.
Sprinklers inside the building were activated and contained the fire, officials said. “Once again Sprinklers proved effectiveness in containing a potentially major fire in a key facility. Sprinklers save lives and property,” D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted about 6:30 a.m.
There are no reports of injuries.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and observed heavy smoke coming from a heating unit in Room 218. The room was unoccupied at the time and the sprinkler system within the room extinguished the fire before the firefighters arrived.
The entire building evacuated the premises after the building’s fire alarm went off. There are no reported injuries among the hotel guests, staff, or firefighters.
The MPFD escorted hotel guests to gather their belongings and all guests are being relocated to other properties.
The building’s lobby suffered water damage and Room 218 suffered extensive fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
The Mt Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, the Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department and Mobile Medical Response.
Once on the scene, firefighters found heavy smoke conditions in the building and sprinkler activation inside the restaurant.
After forcing their way into the restaurant, crews were able to douse the flames in the kitchen area and return to the station by 5:30 a.m.
The building received heavy smoke and water damage.
No word on when the restaurant will be able to reopen.
They tweeted about the fire at 5753 Kyle Parkway around 8:20 p.m. The area is just south of Bebee and Bunton Creek Road.
It said the fire set off the sprinkler system, which kept the fire from spreading. Crews arrived at the scene and put the fire out.
“It was determined that it was the careless disposal of cigarettes in a trash barrel,” said Fire Department Capt. Neil Furtado.
Furtado said the trash barrel was in a third-floor unit of a rooming house at 515 South Main St.
Fire investigators found a cigarette butt embedded in the melted plastic of the trash barrel “which was a strong indicator that’s where the fire started,” Furtado said.
The building’s sprinkler system suppressed the fire but caused water damage to the 18-unit structure, said Furtado. Investigators pegged the cost of the damage at approximately $15,000.
No injuries were reported to fire personnel or building residents, according to Furtado.
Firefighters responded to the building about 2:15 p.m. Monday. The residence was located along the parade route near where the parade stepped off from Kennedy Park.
The Veterans Day parade was briefly paused so that fire apparatus could approach the scene.
The fire was reportedly shortly after noon. The first crews on the scene reported a 400-square-foot area of garbage burning in Bay One of the facility, with approximately 15 employees and 20 customers being evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Hose lines were quickly deployed and the sprinkler system was supported to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading to the building. A second alarm was called due to the potential for fire spread, however the fire was brought under control in 40 minutes and the second alarm units were canceled.
The cause of this fire is undetermined, according to Clackamas Fire.
A fire was reported Sunday night in an Amazon warehouse on Boggy Creek Road, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.
OCFR first tweeted about the fire at around 9 p.m. indicating that the sprinklers within the warehouse were activated, and the building was evacuated, OCFR said.
Shortly after, OCFR followed up with a tweet saying the fire had been extinguished.
Fire crews were then working the scene salvaging Amazon goods.
The call came in at 7:46 p.m.
The first unit arrived on scene seven minutes later to find the small kitchen fire being controlled by the sprinkler system.
Firefighters quickly initiated an attack and made sure that the building was clear. The fire was completely extinguished at 8:09 p.m.
No one was hurt, and the residents are being assisted with lodging arrangement.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire activated a sprinkler that helped contain it, Dymeck said, adding that firefighters donned self-contained breathing apparatuses, entered the mammoth complex with hoses and had the fire out in 30 minutes.
Employees were allowed back in once the building was declared safe, Dymeck.
“This was an accidental fire,” he said, adding that fire damage was confined to the machine.
Second alarm companies from Old Lycoming Township and South Williamsport were called to the scene as a precautionary measure.
The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) responded to the report of a structure fire at The Rustic of McKinney Apartments (2700 North Brook Dr.) on Thursday, Nov. 7. MFD units found a single fire sprinkler had activated and extinguished a grease fire in a pan that was left on the stovetop.
No one was injured and the fire sprinkler reduced costly damage to a minimum as well as limited the amount of repair time tenants would be kept out of the apartment. Investigators say the resident was distracted by a cellphone when the fire broke out.
“Home fires caused by cooking peak around Thanksgiving and Christmas,” said Merit Ossian, McKinney Fire Department PIO and Education Coordinator. “With those holidays coming up, this is a good reminder to be diligent when you’ve got food on the stove or in the oven.”
