Dolgeville, NY – Sprinkler system activated for fire at fabric company

A fire broke out at Gehring Tricot, a fabric company in Dolgeville, on Wednesday morning.

The fire was extinguished swiftly, preventing the entire building and fabric from being destroyed.

The incident occurred around 10:10 a.m. and was contained to a single room at the back of the structure.

According to Dolgeville’s Fire Chief David Jaquay, the sprinkler system was triggered, and it put out most of the fire before the arrival of firefighters.

Fire departments from Salisbury, Hilltop, Little Falls, and Oppenheim assisted Dolgeville’s fire crews.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Frisco, TX – Sprinkler system activated for fire at pet facility; No injuries reported

The Frisco Fire Department on Dec. 28 responded to a fire at a pet facility, according to a post from the department. 

Just before 8 a.m. that day, the department received a fire alarm for the sprinklers having activated at a pet facility in the 6400 block of Preston Road.

Shortly after the fire alarm notification, the department was informed there was a fire in the building. Upon arrival, it was discovered a sprinkler head was activated by the fire. The sprinkler head controlled the fire and limited damage to the building, the department said. The fire was the result of a light fixture and ballast that failed and caught on fire, the department said.

At the time of the fire there were approximately 20 pets in the business. There were no injuries reported, and none of the pets were injured during the fire. The Frisco Police Department Animal Services Division is working with the business to safely relocate the pets to other local facilities, according to the fire department.

Allentown, PA – Sprinkler system activated for fire at courthouse

The Lehigh County Courthouse in Allentown is shuttered on Wednesday due to, what officials called, “a minor fire.”

In an update to the county court’s website, officials said the courthouse– at 455 West Hamilton Street — would be closed for the day on Dec. 20, and all matters scheduled for the day would be rescheduled.

On Wednesday morning, Allentown Fire Department Captain John Christopher told NBC10 that a minor electrical fire in the supply room in the basement parking garage had caused the need for a closure.

The fire, he said, was knocked down by the building’s sprinkler system and electricity was shut off.

After services were shut down, he said, a decision was made to close the courthouse for the day in order to perform repairs.

The Historic Lehigh County Courthouse and Magisterial District Judge’s office will remain open, officials said.

Los Angeles, CA – Sprinkler system contains third floor apartment fire; No injuries reported

Firefighters quickly doused a blaze that erupted in an Exposition Park apartment building this morning, officials said.

The fire, which was contained in a single unit on the third floor of the four-story structure at 3671 S Western Ave., was subdued by the building’s sprinkler system before the fire department arrived.

Upon receipt of a 9-1-1 call at 9:07 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.

According to LAFD, firefighters made entry and were able to extinguish the fire completely within 16 minutes, preventing the spread of flames and ensuring no injuries were reported.

The buildup of water from the sprinklers led to salvage operations by the crew to mitigate damage to the property.

The unit, part of a modern apartment complex comprised of three residential floors over parking, showed light smoke when the first responders arrived.

“Firefighters located fire in one unit on the 3rd floor being held in check by sprinklers,” stated LAFD spokesperson Margaret Stewart.

As a precaution, crews conducted thorough investigations to ensure that there were no remaining threats. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and details as to the extent of the damage have not been disclosed. According to the fire department’s estimate, the swift action of the sprinkler system and the efficiency of the responding teams curtailed what could have been a much more severe incident, a testament to the importance of fire safety systems in residential buildings.

Suffield, CT – Sprinkler system activated for electrical fire at academy

A private school in Suffield was evacuated because of what a small fire that triggered its sprinkler system.

Emergency crews were called for an electrical fire at the Suffield Academy on North Main Street on Tuesday morning.

It was caused by a faulty power strip, school officials said.

Chief Financial Officer Patrick Booth told Channel 3 that it was minor and that everyone was evacuated and safe.

New London, CT – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment complex

Nov. 19—NEW LONDON — A fire at an apartment complex on Jefferson Avenue displaced a family of five Sunday.

At 11:41 a.m., New London firefighters responded to a call for a kitchen fire in apartment B7 in Jefferson Commons, 432 Jefferson Ave., Battalion Chief Mark Waters said.

When firefighters arrived, they evacuated the family, and cleared smoke and water from the apartment, he said.

The American Red Cross provided assistance to the family and caseworkers will be working with them to come up with a long-term recovery plan.

The fire had been controlled by the apartment’s sprinkler system, he said. Crews were at the scene for about half-an-hour.

The fire caused damage to the stove, cabinets and range hood, as well as smoke damage to the ceiling, Waters said, adding that repairs will have to be made.

Waters said the cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire marshal’s office.

Winnipeg, MB, Canada – Sprinkler system activated for at seven story hotel; No injuries reported

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) has had a busy 12 hours, responding to two recent blazes on Pembina Highway and Main Street.

The first call came just after 7 p.m. Friday, when crews were called to a fire in a three-storey apartment block in the 1600 block of Pembina Highway.

Firefighters arrived to a building full of smoke, and tracked the fire to the laundry room. They attacked the flames, declaring them under control by 7:45 p.m.

Everyone got out of the building safely, no injuries were reported. Investigators believe the fire was accidental, caused by a dryer malfunction.

Twelve hours later, at 7:02 a.m. Saturday, crews responded to a seven-storey hotel in the 500 block of Main Street.

A WFPS spokesperson tells CTV News the fire happened at the McLaren Hotel, but was contained to a suite.

Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke in the building and quickly located the fire. It had been kept under control by the building’s sprinkler system, and firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the remaining hot spots.

Some occupants of the building self-evacuated, while others were able to shelter in place. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Mountain View, CA – Sprinkler system activated for fire in commercial building

Yesterday morning, the City of Mountain View Fire Department received an emergency call from 2522 Leghorn St. A fire engulfed a single-story commercial building at this location.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that the facility’s sprinkler system had already begun fighting the flames per the City of Mountain View news report.

Mountain View and Palo Alto Fire Department units controlled the fire efficiently.

They confirmed the fire’s extinction using thermal imaging cameras and ensured safety by cutting open the building’s walls and roof.

The fire originated from the rear, it appears, where no ignition sources exist.

An investigation continues into the cause of the fire, which migrated from exterior to interior, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Charlotte, NC – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment complex; No injuries reported

Charlotte Fire officials say they responded to an apartment fire in the SouthPark area Monday morning.

First responders said the fire originated in a living room at the Allure apartment complex in the 5700 block of Carnegie Boulevard. They said upon arrival, smoke was coming out of the 350-unit structure.

The fire was contained by a sprinkler head at the apartment of origin, and was under control in 34 minutes.

First-floor apartments around unit sustained some water damage. Firefighters said the estimated property/content loss was $55,000.

Medic also responded to the incident and said they did not transport patients.

Tucson, AZ – Sprinkler system activated for attic fire at senior living center; No injuries reported

Residents with mobility issues had to be carried from the upper floors of a Midtown senior living facility after a fire in the attic space disabled the elevators.

Tucson Fire crews were dispatched to the facility in the 1500 block of East River Road at 9:35 a.m. for reports of smoke coming from an attic space, according to a social media post from TFD.

The fire was under control by 9:53 a.m. No residents were injured. A maintenance worker was transported from the scene with a medical issue unrelated to the fire, the post said.

Several residents were carried from the facility. The sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading, but the water caused significant damage to more than a dozen units, the post said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
