Campbell, CA – Sprinkler system activated for fire at commercial garage

On Monday, Oct. 6, at 7:02am, Santa Clara County 9-1-1 Communications received a citizen report of smoke coming from the bottom of a commercial roll-up garage door at a building on the 1330 block of Dell Avenue in Campbell.

Firefighters along with the Campbell Police Department arrived quickly and confirmed all occupants were out of the building and made entry into a classic vehicle repair garage. Crews worked to locate the fire with zero visibility because of smoke conditions and extinguished the fire while keeping it to the unit of origin.

The fire was deemed under control by 7:40am. The cause is under investigation.

A SCCFD spokesperson said successful activation of the building sprinkler system prevented further damage to neighboring businesses.

The spokesperson added that fire suppression systems are a critical safety element in commercial buildings, allowing firefighters to work safely and efficiently while helping minimize the spread of the fire.

Kansas City, MO – Sprinkler system extinguished arson fire at high school; No injuries reported

Two Lawrence High School students were arrested earlier this week for their alleged role in a fire Monday morning in the girls’ locker room at the school.

On Tuesday, Lawrence School District Superintendent Dr. Jeanice Kerr Swift and Lawrence High School Principal Dr. Quentin Rials notified the high school community of the incident.

According to their letter, firefighters responded around 11:15 a.m. Monday on a report of smoke coming from the girls’ locker room.

Firefighters arrived and discovered the sprinkler system had already extinguished the fire. Investigators traced the origin of the fire back to a paper towel dispenser that extended to a combustible trash bin below.

Two students were arrested.

“While we cannot share details about individual students’ involvement, we want our community to know that both law enforcement and the district take these matters very seriously, and in addition to the appropriate criminal processes, we will be implementing disciplinary consequences in line with our policies,” the district said in the communication to families.

No injuries were reported.

The district also addressed community concern over the timeliness of information to families during Monday’s incident.

Los Angeles, CA – Sprinkler system keeps e-bike fire in check at downtown high-rise building

A woman was injured on Sunday when she jumped from the third floor of a downtown Los Angeles high-rise to get away from an e-bike fire, authorities said. 

Los Angeles Fire Department crews were sent to the Rosslyn Lofts, located in the 400 block of S. Main Street, shortly after 9:45 a.m. upon learning of the blaze, said a news release from department officials.

Firefighters were able to quickly control the flames, which were extinguished in about 20 minutes. They said that the building’s sprinkler system was able to keep them largely in check until they were contained by first-arriving crews.

“A 68-year-old female resident … reportedly jumped from a third-floor fire escape prior to LAFD arrival, sustaining a severe leg injury and minor facial trauma,” the release said. She was taken to a nearby hospital in fair condition and is expected to be okay, firefighters said.

No other injuries were reported.

“The cause of the fire was deemed to be electrical in nature,” the release said.

Chesterfield County, VA – Sprinkler system helps contain electrical fire at aluminum facility; No injuries reported

A sprinkler system helped to contain an electrical fire in the ceiling of Kaiser Aluminum in Chesterfield County on Saturday morning.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, crews with Chesterfield Fire and EMS responded to a call for a structure fire at Kaiser Aluminum in the 1900 block of Reymet Road, near Interstate 95 and Route 288.

According to fire officials, firefighters found an electrical fire in the ceiling mostly extinguished by the sprinkler system.

Firefighters reportedly remained on scene for several hours putting out hot spots.

No injuries were reported in connection with this incident.

Aurora, CO – Sprinkler system activated for morning fire at apartment complex; No injuries reported

A Thursday morning apartment fire in southwest Aurora left two adults and two children without a home, according to the city’s fire department.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm in the 1300 block of Florence Street at about 11:00 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from Aurora Fire Rescue.

Several people called 911 to report smoke coming from inside the three-story apartment building, fire officials said.

As firefighters searched the building, they rescued a dog hiding in one of the rooms and returned the uninjured animal to its owner, according to the agency.

The fire sparked in the kitchen of an apartment and was mostly extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system, Aurora fire officials said. Crews got the remaining flames under control in about 10 minutes.

The flames did not spread into the neighboring units, according to Aurora Fire Rescue.

No one was injured, but two adults, two children and a dog were displaced by the fire, agency officials said. The cause remains under investigation.

St. Cloud, MN – Sprinkler system controls kitchen fire at apartment building

Unattended cooking appears to be the cause of a fire Sunday morning in St. Cloud.

According to a critical incident report from the fire department, they responded to an alarm at 9:20 at an apartment on the 4000 block of 12th Street North. They arrived to find a sprinkler controlled fire in a kitchen. Firefighters put out the rest of the flames and helped the person evacuate.

The Red Cross also responded to assist the resident.

Chesterfield County, VA – Sprinkler system contains battery fire at technology park

A fire sparked at Charisa Technology Park in Chesterfield County on Monday morning, according to Chesterfield Fire and EMS.

According to a Monday afternoon update, the fire was contained to a battery room by the sprinkler system and crews stayed on scene through the day to control flare-ups, which can happen when dealing with fires involving batteries.

“This is the fourth incident in the last year at this facility,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS said in a Facebook post.

The first call for a fire at the facility was on Dec. 5. They returned on June 10 and again on Aug. 20, just over two weeks before Monday’s fire.

Chesterfield Fire and EMS noted that fires at data centers are “rare” and that the number of calls does not affect its ability to respond to other emergencies, but the frequency of calls prompted Chesterfield to respond in a statement saying in part:

“The company is actively working with the Chesterfield Fire Marshal’s Office to address the root cause of these incidents and to reduce the risk for future fires.. We are optimistic that proposed improvements at this facility will address the current concerns,” they said.

Claremont, CA – Sprinkler system activated for fire at college residence hall; No injuries reported

A small fire broke out in a second floor residence hall room in Marks Hall at Claremont McKenna College this morning. No one was injured. 

The sprinkler system was activated in response to the fire, which began just before 8:00 a.m., and the Los Angeles Fire Department quickly made it to the scene. The fire department is still determining the fire’s cause, according to an email from Associate Vice President Alex Boekelheide to the CMC community.

There was some water and smoke damage to five residence hall rooms.

“The Dean of Students Office has set up a staging area in McKenna Auditorium for the residents until the building is cleared later this morning,” the email read. “We will work with the impacted residents to relocate them, inventory and replace any damaged belongings, and to support students emotionally throughout the situation and beyond.”

CMC has not provided TSL with any further information on the fire, or whether the building is now clear.

Angels Camp, CA – Sprinkler system activated for fire at senior living facility

A senior living facility in Angels Camp was evacuated due to a fire in one of the units this morning.

It happened at around 7:20 am at the Foothill Village Senior Living Center, located on Foothill Village Drive.

City of Angels Camp Assistant Chief Nathan Pry reports that an electrical issue sparked the fire. It damaged a small room and its contents. All of the residents were evacuated, impacting between 100-150 people. The fire sprinkler system also went off in the building.

Chief Pry estimates that the fire caused somewhere around $20,000 in damage to the building and contents. One person who was in the room was taken away by ambulance to treat minor to moderate injuries. She is the lone person displaced by the fire.

Other agencies that responded, in addition to the Angels Camp Fire Department, include Murphys Fire, CAL Fire, Altaville Melones Fire, and the Copperopolis CERT team.

The fire is fully extinguished, but cleanup efforts are ongoing at the facility.

Fort Wayne, IN – Sprinkler system activated for fire at manufacturing facility; No injuries reported

A fire broke out over the weekend at a manufacturing facility in southwest Fort Wayne.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called out to the 9100 block of Yeager Lane after receiving word that a fire alarm had gone off at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

After arriving on scene at 11:10 a.m., firefighters discovered an active waterflow alarm going off inside the building, according to a press release.

Upon entering the building, crews were met with smoke, and the response was upgraded to a structure fire, prompting the dispatch of 6 additional units to the location.

The fire was located inside a manufacturing area and was extinguished by the sprinkler system.

Crews on scene worked to stop further water damage and remove the smoke from the building.

The building was vacant at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
