Levittown, PA – Fire contained to commercial dryer at substance abuse treatment center thanks to fire sprinklers; No injuries reported

A Saturday night fire damaged a residential substance abuse treatment facility.

Firefighters from the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company and Newtown Fire Association were called to Pyramid Healthcare, formerly Today Inc., in the 1900 block of North Woodbourne Road by Core Creek Park in Middletown for a report of a basement blaze around 10:15 p.m.

Crews arrived and found the basement fire contained to a single room. They beat back the bulk of the flames within 10 minutes, and the fire was placed fully under control a few minutes later, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry said.

Smoke spread throughout the building that has dorms, but the fire was contained to the single room in the basement. The room contained a large commercial dryer and had a working sprinkler, Farry said.

No injuries were reported.

The Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze due to the fact the facility leases their location from the county.

Sacramento, CA – Fire at strip mall contained by fire sprinklers; No injuries reported

Firefighters say no one was hurt in a two-alarm fire at a south Sacramento strip mall on Friday morning.

The scene was along the 5800 block of Stockton Boulevard.

According to the Sacramento Fire Department, the fire was first reported a little after 7 a.m. A second-alarm was called.

Firefighters extinguished the flames within the hour. They credit the building’s sprinkler system with helping contain the flames to one unit.

Traffic in the area was blocked due to the fire response.

Exactly what caused the fire is still under investigation.

Chattanooga, TN – Fourth floor apartment fire kept in check by fire sprinklers

Crews with the Chattanooga Fire Department battled a fire at the Vista Cameron Harbor apartments that broke out overnight in the middle of frigid temperatures.

According to the fire department, the first fire company that arrived reported a fire on a fourth-floor balcony.

Firefighters made their way into the apartment and found the sprinkler activated in the bedroom.

Glass from the balcony doors broke due to the fire and the sprinkler activated kept the fire from spreading.

Firefighters extinguished a small fire on the balcony that remained after the sprinklers were activated.

Several apartments received water damage due to the sprinklers. Fire crews used tarp to cover the affected areas.

All occupants were evacuating the building upon the arrival of firefighters.

Due to the frigid temperatures, apartment occupants were sheltered on the first floor until they got approval to return to their apartments.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross was called to assist two people.

Katy, TX – (no media coverage) Apartment kitchen fire extinguished by fire sprinkler

FD stated that they were dispatched to an apartment fire and upon arrival they found a sprinkler controlled kitchen fire. They said prior to their arrival a Willowfork FD chief had arrived to active fire and water flow alarms, entered the apartment and found the fire extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system. There was minor water damage throughout the apartment but minimal fire damage. The occupant who rents the apartment and lives there with her daughter said that she was home heating a pot of cooking oil in preparation to make some fried chicken. The pot was unattended at times while heating. At some point she stepped out of the apartment. When she re-entered the apartment she saw the black smoke coming from the kitchen. Upon investigation she found the pot of oil had ignited. She placed a kitchen towel over the fire, located her daughter, left the apartment and called 911.

Des Moines, IA – Fire sprinklers contained second floor fire at downtown Capital Square building; No injuries reported

No injuries have been reported in a fire Thursday morning that forced people to evacuate a downtown Des Moines building.

The blaze began a little before 7:30 a.m. on the third floor of the Capital Square building, which counts The Des Moines Register newspaper among its tenants.

Flames and some shattered windows could be seen from the street.

Fire Department spokesman Rick Thomas says most of the flames had been knocked down by a little after 8 a.m. He told the newspaper that fire sprinklers checked the blaze until firefighters could begin their work.

The fire cause is being investigated.

Rocklin, CA – Warehouse fire kept in check by sprinkler system

A Rocklin warehouse was damaged in a fire early Thursday morning, authorities say.

According to the Rocklin Fire Department, firefighters responded to the Citrus Avenue building around 3 a.m. to investigate a water flow alarm. They then spotted smoke coming from the top of a roll-up door.

Firefighters had to force their way inside. Smoke was found down to the floor.

A sprinkler system managed to hold the fire until crews arrived, but firefighters say the building did suffer moderate damage – including a partial floor collapse.

Aside from that, it appears most of the damage is smoke related.

Exactly what caused the fire is unclear at this point.

Decorah, IA – Fire sprinklers activate to control dorm room fire; No injuries reported

A fire inside a Luther College dorm in Decorah caused damages but injured no one Wednesday evening.

The Decorah fire department says they were called to Miller hall on Luther’s campus for the fire in the dorm room.

Authorities say they were directed to a room on the second floor of the building, when they got to the room in question there was no one inside, but there was a small burned area in the room.

Firefighters say the sprinkler system inside the hall had been activated and there was smoke found in the building. The sprinkler system was turned off by firefighters and the smoke was ventilated from the room and building.

What caused the fire is still under investigation by the Decorah fire department.

North Bend, WA – Fire at volunteer fire station contained by sprinkler system

Eastside Fire & Rescue crews responded Tuesday to a report of a fire in North Bend – and when they arrived on scene they found smoke and flames pouring from one of their own fire stations.

The incident unfolded just before 3 p.m. Tuesday when firefighters responded to a fire alarm at a building at 42804 SE 172nd St. in North Bend. Turns out that’s the address of Eastside Fire’s Station 88 in the Wilderness Rim area – a volunteer station that is not staffed full time.

Smoke was billowing from the building when crews arrived on scene. The flames were extinguished, and firefighters discovered that the flames had erupted from an ambulance parked inside the building’s apparatus bay.

The station’s sprinkler system prevented the blaze from spreading.

Fire officials say no one was in the building when the fire started, and it’s unclear why the ambulance burst into flames.

Pearland, TX – (no media coverage) Single sprinkler head puts out apartment fire; No injuries reported

January 7, 2020 – The Pearland Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 2500 block of Business Center Drive. Upon arriving department officials discovered that the kitchen fire had been extinguished by the fire sprinkler installed in the building. The fire was contained and extinguished using a single sprinkler head. The apartment suffered minimal smoke, fire, and water damage throughout. No injuries were reported.
