Aiken, SC – Fire at historic Hotel Aiken extinguished by sprinkler system

The Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to Hotel Aiken on Richland Avenue at about 4:50 a.m. Sunday after a fire alarm was activated by the business’ sprinkler system, according to the report.

No smoke or fire was visible upon arrival. The fire occurred in a room on the third floor and was extinguished by the sprinkler system, according to Public Safety Lt. Jake Mahoney.

The fire was started by a candle left burning on a shelf near some towels, according to the report.  No injuries were reported

East Brunswick, NJ – Sprinklers control fire at Olive Garden restaurant, Minimize damage

3:26 a.m. Nov. 23. Emergency personnel responded to an early morning fire at Olive Garden. The small fire started in a light fixture on the roof above an employee bathroom, Fire Marshal John Talbot said.  Talbot credited the fire companies and sprinkler system with extinguishing the fire quickly.  The business was cleared to open Monday, he said.

West Lafayette, IN – Sprinkler system activates to control overnight fire at Purdue University off-campus apartment building

West Lafayette Fire Chief Tim Heath said the fire broke out above a trash receptacle on the third floor. The heat from the fire caused one sprinkler head to start spraying.  Fuse Apartment management said the damage to the apartments is minimal and will be repaired as students are out this week for Thanksgiving break.

Charleston, SC – Fire sprinkler controls downtown apartment fire

The Charleston Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm on Market Street this morning at 3:42 a.m.  Fire officials say there was smoke coming from the Canterbury East building from the 4th floor hallway. Fire department officials say the couch fire was contained by the fire sprinkler head in the resident’s apartment building. The damage from the fire was limited to the sofa and the resident was taken to safety.  The specific cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Sprinkler system limits damage in restaurant fire (Pemberton Township, NJ)

The Best Buffet Chinese restaurant on Broadway will be temporarily closed because of an early morning fire, officials said Tuesday. The blaze began about 2 a.m. Tuesday when several boxes on top of a walk-in freezer caught fire, fire Chief Craig Augustoni said. It was contained by a sprinkler system and caused mostly smoke damage. An investigation into the cause determined the fire was accidental and likely caused by a compressor, Augustoni said.

Fire marshal credits sprinkler with averting disaster in overnight apartment fire (Grafton, IL)

There were no news trucks outside 100 Forest Lane at 3 a.m. Thursday, no reports of deaths from a terrible fire, no flames filling the darkened skies.

Oh, there was a fire at an apartment at the 10-unit building and there was some damage to an apartment, but by the time firefighters arrived, the blaze was out because a single sprinkler head had been activated and doused the flames. No one was hurt.

Sprinkler contains overnight arson fire at elementary school (McAllen, TX)

Suspects broke into an elementary school, sprayed graffiti and started two classrooms on fire early Sunday morning. Firefighters responded to Dr. Pablo Perez Elementary School at 3:17 a.m. and took about 45 minutes to extinguish the fire, McAllen Fire Department Sector Capt. Javier Gutierrez said.

The fire was contained to the rooms with help from the school’s sprinkler system, he said, adding that fire investigators will be on scene at the school Monday to survey the damage. The school is still planning to be open, and the first grade students in the affected classrooms will be temporarily relocated.

 

Sprinkler system contains blaze in early morning mall fire (North Riverside, IL)

A fire ignited inside the loading dock area of the Carson Pirie Scott department store at the North Riverside Park Mall early Wednesday, sending smoke throughout the store and into the main area of the mall.

Fire damage was contained to the loading dock area, which is located on the south side of the store, but Fire Chief Bran Basek said that the ground floor area of Carson’s was “fully charged” with smoke when firefighter arrived shortly after the alarm call came in at about 3:50 a.m. Once the fire was located, it took about 15 to 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, Basek said. The store’s fire sprinkler system was able to keep the fire, which was centered on merchandise stored on racks inside the loading dock, from spreading.
