The home’s sprinkler system activated quickly and extinguished the fire. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze occurred at a two-story, middle unit townhouse on F. Radford Lane in Lexington Park and was reported shortly after 7 a.m. “No one was home at the time of the fire,” stated Dfm. Caryn McMahon. “A neighbor smelled the odor of smoke and called 911. The fire originated in a small trashcan in the upstairs bedroom. The family has been temporarily displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.” Fifteen firefighters from Bay District and Patuxent Naval Air Station were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze. No injuries were reported.

When the fire occurred, a sprinkler system turned on, the main generator stopped functioning and power was cut off, Russo said. The data center computers are housed in a separate building from the generators, and were not damaged, she said. No foul play was expected. Individual barracks did not lose power and retained access to their own computer systems, said Elena Russo, a police spokeswoman. The state police website was not accessible for several hours. Power had been restored as of Friday afternoon.

Campus police were called to Baker Hall after a fire alarm company said that an alarm was activated there. The sprinkler system in the data equipment room was activated prior to the fire department arriving. No injuries were reported and everyone was evacuated safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The resulting fire was for the most part extinguished by a ceiling sprinkler. Fire damage was minimal. “The sprinkler did what it is supposed to do,” the battalion chief said. A few tenants, some in wheelchairs, stayed outside the building for several minutes.

Smoke and flames damaged a few rooms, but there were no injuries. The first fire company that arrived reported smoke showing on the third floor. Fire companies worked their way up to the fire floor and made entry into a third floor room of the three-story hotel and found the fire, which was partially extinguished by the activation of a sprinkler head. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Additionally, the hotel was able to remain in operation and guests were relocated to other rooms that were not affected by the fire.
Nursing Home/Senior Living, Residential Kelowna, BC, Canada – Deliberately set fire in nursing home extinguished by sprinkler system December 8, 2014 viking210 The Kelowna Fire Department received an alarm at around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning from White Heather Manor at 3728 Casorso Road. When crews arrived, they were met by the charge nurse who told them that there was a small fire in the nursing home’s activity room. According to platoon captain Tim Light, the fire had already been extinguished before fire crews arrived by the sprinkler system. After searching the area, the firefighters shut off the water and then set up ventilation to clear smoke from the affected suites and hallways. The residents were evacuated outside at first, but when conditions permitted, they were sheltered in an unaffected area of the facility. Firefighters stayed on scene to help lessen the water damage from the sprinkler. The Kelowna Fire Department says that this was a deliberately set fire, and that RCMP are now involved in the investigation.

George Laing said. Firefighters rescued a pet dog from a fire that damaged a hillside home in Lafayette this morning, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman said. The home’s hillside location and its distance from the nearest fire hydrant made it tough to access and douse the flames, but crews were able to get the fire under control around 9:20 a.m., Laing said. “All in all, this was a great job by the crews and a save by the sprinkler system,” the fire captain said.

The fire started around 9:30 a.m. when an extension cord malfunctioned at The Home Depot at 2300 Harbor Blvd., according to authorities. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the store’s garden center and forced their way in. A crew of about 17 quickly extinguished the flames, which had been held in check by a sprinkler system, according to the Fire Department. The fire caused about $1,000 in damage.
