Las Vegas, NV – Fire in mall food court extinguished by sprinkler system; No injuries reported

Las Vegas firefighters said they are investigating after a fire broke out at the food court in Meadows Mall Friday. The incident occurred Friday morning at Panda Express, located inside the mall on 4300 Meadows Lane. The fire department said the fire sprinkler put out a grill top fire. No injuries were reported, the fire department said.

Tulsa, OK – Sprinklers confine fire at Woodland Hills Mall to small area

A small fire triggered an alarm and was extinguished at Woodland Hills Mall on Monday evening, a Tulsa Fire Department spokesman said.

Fire Capt. Stan May said some boxes in a sub-level storage area near JCPenney, on the south side of the mall at 71st Street and Memorial Drive, caught fire and triggered an alarm about 8 p.m. Three sprinklers were activated and kept the flames confined to the boxes, which were in a hallway area, May said.

Panama City, FL – Sprinklers help contain fire at Best Buy

A fire at Best Buy on 23rd street in Panama City Monday night has damaged the interior of the store.

The first call came in around 10:20 pm about smoke coming out of the building. When Panama City fire crews arrived on scene they saw a “good amount” of smoke and went into attack mode.

After getting inside, crews were able to put out the fire just after 10:45pm.

As of the time of this writing, 11PM, no cause of the fire had been determined, but smoke continues to pour from the building.

An investigator with PCFD is in route. It’s also unknown if the smoke from the blaze has damaged any adjacent businesses.

Investigators with the Panama City Fire Department and State Fire Marshall’s Office say the fire began due to a possible electrical short from a printer and has been ruled accidental.

Two properly working sprinkler heads are being credited with helping contain the fire to a small area. According to PCFD, none of the business next to Best Buy sustained any fire damage.

Henderson, NV – Sprinkler system contains fire in retail strip mall; No damage to neighboring businesses

The Henderson Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a commercial strip center near North Boulder Highway and East Lake Mead Parkway this morning at about 2:30 a.m. The call was reported to 9-1-1 as a water flow event by the building’s alarm monitoring company. The first arriving firefighters observed smoke originating at Las Vegas Kettle Corn, located at 110 N. Boulder Hwy., and requested additional assistance for a possible structure fire.

Crews broke the store’s front windows to ventilate the smoke and found the fire in an office area of the business. The fire was controlled by the building’s fire sprinkler system and crews quickly extinguished the remaining fire. The fire did not extend into neighboring businesses. The businesses located in the strip center were closed at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to bystanders or fire personnel.

A City of Henderson Fire Investigator, Henderson Police, NV Energy and Southwest Gas assisted in securing the building. It was determined that the fire originated in the store’s camera security equipment.

Casa Grande, AZ – Electrical fire at Victoria’s Secret store extinguished by sprinkler system

The Victoria’s Secret store at The Promenade at Casa Grande has closed temporarily after a small fire erupted last Wednesday morning.  A store associate said it was an electrical fire.  The sprinklers had extinguished the fire by the time the Casa Grande Fire Department arrived at about 8 a.m. 

Signs posted in front of the store indicate the damage could take up to two weeks to repair. Much of the merchandise has been removed as some of the walls and flooring are renovated. The store is expected to undergo a “complete make-over,” according to the associate.

Security guards are monitoring the area 24/7 until the store opens again. Residents who call the store at 421-1372 will hear a pre-recorded message indicating the location is temporarily closed with no scheduled date to re-open.  

Duluth, GA – Sprinkler system saves strip mall from damage in fire; No injuries

A small fire at a strip shopping center undergoing construction in Duluth caused minimal damage Wednesday afternoon, thanks to an automatic sprinkler system.

Firefighters responded around 4:48 p.m. to a report of a fire at the shopping center in the 3940 block of Buford Highway, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge, public information officer for the Gwinnett County fire department.

Crews arrived to find light smoke and the sprinkler system activated. They discovered a small fire in an unoccupied store suite that was had already been extinguished by the sprinklers.

The fire caused minimal damage, as the suite was vacant at the time and no contents were involved. The fire appears accidental and was sparked by a floor compound during construction work. There were no injuries reported and no damage to the structure, Rutledge said.

Arcadia, CA – Kitchen fire at Sbarro’s Pizza extinguished by sprinkler system

A kitchen fire at the Sbarro’s Pizza in the Westfield Santa Anita mall caused a temporary evacuation of the food court Thursday evening, officials said.  Nearly 20 firefighters from the Arcadia and Los Angeles County fire departments responded to a call of a structure fire at 8:15 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue, fire officials said in a statement.

Mall security directed firefighters to the food court, where they saw smoke and evacuated the area. Further investigation found a fire sprinkler had extinguished a blaze in the restaurant’s kitchen, officials said.  The fire was limited to the immediate area and happened when combustible materials were placed on a stove, officials said.  Officials estimated the fire caused approximately $25,000 in damage and no injuries were reported.

Calgary, AB, Canada – Sprinkler system helps protect mall from potentially devastating fire

Authorities say the sprinkler system in Calgary’s Chinook Centre helped save the mall from what could have been a devastating fire.

Fire crews were called to the shopping centre early Friday morning for reports of smoke seen coming from the building.

Officials say when they got there; they found the remnants of a small fire in a hallway between two stores. They say the fire suppression system knocked it down and prevented it from spreading any further.

Escondido, CA – Sprinkler system holds fire in check at shopping mall

A fire at Westfield North County mall in Escondido delayed its opening Sunday morning during the pre-Christmas shopping rush. The fire started near the Brookstone store on the south side of the mall, according to the Escondido Fire Department.  The sprinkler system above the fire area was activated, which helped contain the blaze while fire crews extinguished the remaining burning material. The Brookstone store suffered fire damage, and adjoining businesses sustained some smoke damage.
