Printing business fire contained thanks to sprinkler system (Lake Zurich, IL)

The owner of a Lake Zurich company was able to escape his business as it filled with smoke due to a machine fire Thursday afternoon, officials said. The fire started in a laser printing machine inside the business at 75 Oakwood Road at about 3:35 p.m., and was contained to the machine thanks to a sprinkler system, said Lake Zurich Fire Chief David Wheelock.

Sprinkler system assists firefighters during office building fire (Columbia, MO)

Fire fighters searched the building for the fire and within 15 minutes located and extinguished a fire in the attic space between the third-floor ceiling and the roof of the building. A fire sprinkler had also activated in the room below the fire. Fire damage was contained to the ceiling and attic space immediately above the approximately 10′ x10′ room of an unoccupied third-floor office suite.

Two small fires set by arsonist controled by sprinkler system (Palmetto, GA)

A Palmetto man has been arrested for setting two small fires at the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center overnight, police said. Police said the fires appear to have been started with some sort of ignitable liquid, and an unidentified liquid also had been poured on several desks in the office area. But the fires set off the sprinkler system in the gymnasium.

Sprinkler system controlled fire at waste management building (Kentville, NS)

Kentville firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the Valley Waste Resource main depot on the Donald E. Hiltz Connector Road. Firefighters received the alarm around 3:30 a.m. On their arrival, they found a small pile of debris, left over from the previous day, had caught fire. According to deputy fire chief Ryan MacEachern, the building’s sprinkler system “did its job,” and while there was “a lot of heavy black smoke” inside the building, any actual fire was out by the time they arrived.

Laboratory fire contained by sprinkler system (Hayward, CA)

The fire at the Seeo company was reported about 3:30 p.m., said Hayward fire Capt. Thor Poulsen. About 25 employees were evacuated from the facility in the 3900 block of Trust Way, at Eden Landing Road, he said. Investigators found a plastic bucket of hexane burning in a laboratory, said Poulsen, who described the chemical as an alcohol-type liquid fuel. The fire was contained in about 25 minutes, he said.

Sprinkler system aids firefighters at recycling plant fire (Hazelwood, MO)

No one was hurt in the three-alarm fire, which started about 3:30 p.m. at the Republic Services plant in the 6600 block of Byassee Drive, just north of Lambert International Airport. Hazelwood Fire Chief Dave Radel said when firefighters arrived, the blaze had just reached the northern wing of the plant, which set off the sprinkler system, so it never spread into the building.
