Florence, WI – Boiler room fire at nursing home suppressed by sprinkler system

Emergency responders evacuated 45 residents of the Golden Living Center nursing home in Florence on Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in the boiler room, Florence County Chief Deputy David Gribble said.  No one was hurt, but the boiler room had smoke and water damage, Gribble said.

Kaukauna, WI – Fire in ventilation system at paper mill knocked down by sprinkler system

The Kaukauna fire department responded to a fire at a paper mill overnight. Fire crews were called around 3:30 a.m. Sunday to Expera Specialty Solutions on the 600 block of Thilmany Road.  When crews arrived, the sprinkler fire system had knocked down most of the fire.  Firefighters found fire and heavy smoke in the ventilation system and was able to extinguish the fire quickly. The fire started in the ventilation system, according to the Kaukauna Fire Department.  The fire was extinguished by 4 a.m.  There were no injuries. There is minimal damage to the building.

Brookfield, WI – Fire in stuffed animal aisle of Toys R Us store put out with help from sprinkler system

A fire was reported late Friday night inside a Toys “R” Us store in Brookfield. Emergency crews were called to the business along Moorland Road around 10:30 p.m.  Witnesses said the fire started in the store’s stuffed animal aisle. Investigators are trying to figure out exactly what sparked the fire.

The sprinkler system came on right away and helped put out the fire. Employees and customers had to be evacuated during the incident.  No one was hurt.  It’s unclear whether the store will be open for business Saturday.

Madison, WI – Apartment building fire contained to room of origin by sprinkler system; No injuries reported

Ten people living in Downtown apartment building were looking for other places to stay temporarily, after a small fire set off an automatic sprinkler system. The fire was reported at about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday at the Uncommon Apartments in the 100 block of North Bedford Street, the Madison Fire Department said.  The fire was in an apartment on the fourth floor, but most of the displaced residents lived on the third floor.  Nobody was hurt.  “An automatic sprinkler activation kept the fire contained to the room of origin, which suffered smoke and fire damage,” said fire department spokeswoman Cynthia Schuster. “A resident reported a candle was burning in the room prior to the fire.”  No damage estimate was given.

Oak Creek, WI – Sprinkler system activates to help limit damage in apartment kitchen fire

Oak Creek police and fire responded to the Oak Shores apartment on Nov. 10 on a report of a fire.  According to the police report, an apartment resident was cooking diner with oil on the stove when the stove caught fire.  Oak Creek fire advised there was no fire damage to anything, however the fire caused the sprinkler system to go off, causing water damage to multiple units.

Denmark, WI – Sprinkler system prevents spread of early morning apartment fire

Three units of a Denmark apartment complex are seriously damaged after an early morning fire. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded at 4:09 a.m. Sunday to the 300 block of Danish Way. The fire started in the kitchen area of one of the units.

No one was hurt. A sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading to other units. The Red Cross is helping the people who lived in the three apartments that were damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Madison, WI – Overnight fire at retail store extinguished by sprinkler system

Sun Prairie, WI – Early morning fire at manufacturing plant extinguished by sprinkler system

An early morning fire at an industrial plant in Sun Prairie was extinguished by the plant’s sprinkler system, with no injuries reported.  The fire happened at about 3 a.m. at Madison-Kipp Corp., 1655 Corporate Center Drive, the Sun Prairie Fire Department said.

The department received a water flow alarm from the plant, and when firefighters arrived on scene, they were told by employees that there had been an active fire that was believed to have been put out by the sprinkler system.

“The first-in officer confirmed the sprinkler system had activated and put out the fire,” said Fire Chief Chris Garrison. “The fire department performed overhaul to prevent further damage and fire spread.”

The fire was contained to one work area in the plant.  The cause of the fire is under investigation; no damage estimate was given.

Madison, WI – Sprinkler system extinguishes intentionally-set fire at office building

Milwaukee, WI – Sprinkler system helps contain fire at family entertainment center

Firefighters were able to contain a business fire at 76th and Brown Deer Road early this morning. 

Crews responded around 3:30 Monday morning. 

It happened at Kangaroo Milwaukee, a family friendly entertainment facility in a strip mall.

Milwaukee Fire Department officials tell us it appears that the sprinkler system helped to contain the fire.

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
