Nursing Home/Senior Living, Residential Florence, WI – Boiler room fire at nursing home suppressed by sprinkler system December 28, 2016 viking210 Emergency responders evacuated 45 residents of the Golden Living Center nursing home in Florence on Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in the boiler room, Florence County Chief Deputy David Gribble said. No one was hurt, but the boiler room had smoke and water damage, Gribble said. Midwest Alarm reported the fire to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office about 9:37 a.m. Florence firefighters found the sprinkler system suppressed the fire, which was contained to the boiler room. Residents were moved to the Florence Elementary School until a determination could be made on the damage to the boiler system and what repairs are needed, Gribble said. The Florence Rescue Squad, Golden Living Center employees and volunteers, Florence County Health Office, Florence County Aging and Disability Resource Center, Florence County School District, Town of Florence, Pride Sports and Red Cross assisted deputies.
Manufacturing, Paper Mill / Saw Mill Kaukauna, WI – Fire in ventilation system at paper mill knocked down by sprinkler system December 23, 2016 viking210 The Kaukauna fire department responded to a fire at a paper mill overnight. Fire crews were called around 3:30 a.m. Sunday to Expera Specialty Solutions on the 600 block of Thilmany Road. When crews arrived, the sprinkler fire system had knocked down most of the fire. Firefighters found fire and heavy smoke in the ventilation system and was able to extinguish the fire quickly. The fire started in the ventilation system, according to the Kaukauna Fire Department. The fire was extinguished by 4 a.m. There were no injuries. There is minimal damage to the building.
Other - Retail, Retail Brookfield, WI – Fire in stuffed animal aisle of Toys R Us store put out with help from sprinkler system December 19, 2016 viking210 A fire was reported late Friday night inside a Toys “R” Us store in Brookfield. Emergency crews were called to the business along Moorland Road around 10:30 p.m. Witnesses said the fire started in the store’s stuffed animal aisle. Investigators are trying to figure out exactly what sparked the fire. The sprinkler system came on right away and helped put out the fire. Employees and customers had to be evacuated during the incident. No one was hurt. It’s unclear whether the store will be open for business Saturday.
Apartment Building, Residential Madison, WI – Apartment building fire contained to room of origin by sprinkler system; No injuries reported December 2, 2016 viking210 Ten people living in Downtown apartment building were looking for other places to stay temporarily, after a small fire set off an automatic sprinkler system. The fire was reported at about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday at the Uncommon Apartments in the 100 block of North Bedford Street, the Madison Fire Department said. The fire was in an apartment on the fourth floor, but most of the displaced residents lived on the third floor. Nobody was hurt. “An automatic sprinkler activation kept the fire contained to the room of origin, which suffered smoke and fire damage,” said fire department spokeswoman Cynthia Schuster. “A resident reported a candle was burning in the room prior to the fire.” No damage estimate was given.
Apartment Building, Residential Oak Creek, WI – Sprinkler system activates to help limit damage in apartment kitchen fire November 21, 2016 viking210 Oak Creek police and fire responded to the Oak Shores apartment on Nov. 10 on a report of a fire. According to the police report, an apartment resident was cooking diner with oil on the stove when the stove caught fire. Oak Creek fire advised there was no fire damage to anything, however the fire caused the sprinkler system to go off, causing water damage to multiple units.
Apartment Building, Residential Denmark, WI – Sprinkler system prevents spread of early morning apartment fire November 1, 2016 viking210 Three units of a Denmark apartment complex are seriously damaged after an early morning fire. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded at 4:09 a.m. Sunday to the 300 block of Danish Way. The fire started in the kitchen area of one of the units. No one was hurt. A sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading to other units. The Red Cross is helping the people who lived in the three apartments that were damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Other - Retail, Retail Madison, WI – Overnight fire at retail store extinguished by sprinkler system October 27, 2016 viking210 An automatic sprinkler system put out a small fire near a cash register at a West Side retail store early Wednesday, keeping the fire from spreading. Nobody was hurt in the fire at Shopko, 7401 Mineral Point Road, the Madison Fire Department said. Firefighters were sent to the store shortly before 3 a.m. to investigate a water flow alarm. “Looking through the front doors, Ladder 2 saw there was a light haze in the front of the store and smoke banked down toward the back of the store,” said fire department spokeswoman Cynthia Schuster. Firefighters got keys from an outdoor key vault and went inside, finding a sprinkler had activated above a cash register, putting out a small fire. No other fire was found in the store. No damage estimate or cause of the fire was given.
Manufacturing, Manufacturing Plant Sun Prairie, WI – Early morning fire at manufacturing plant extinguished by sprinkler system October 16, 2016 viking210 An early morning fire at an industrial plant in Sun Prairie was extinguished by the plant’s sprinkler system, with no injuries reported. The fire happened at about 3 a.m. at Madison-Kipp Corp., 1655 Corporate Center Drive, the Sun Prairie Fire Department said. The department received a water flow alarm from the plant, and when firefighters arrived on scene, they were told by employees that there had been an active fire that was believed to have been put out by the sprinkler system. “The first-in officer confirmed the sprinkler system had activated and put out the fire,” said Fire Chief Chris Garrison. “The fire department performed overhaul to prevent further damage and fire spread.” The fire was contained to one work area in the plant. The cause of the fire is under investigation; no damage estimate was given.
Office Building, Other Business Madison, WI – Sprinkler system extinguishes intentionally-set fire at office building October 11, 2016 viking210 Madison police and firefighters had to deal with a bizarre incident Friday night in an office building along the Beltline, where a man allegedly set fire and vandalized a suite of offices before crawling out, soaking wet, to waiting police. Dustin Palmer, 30, was taken into custody on five counts of criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct, and could face an arson charge, Madison police said. The incident started at about 8 p.m. Friday at the office building at 2601 W. Beltline, the building on the corner of Todd Drive and the Beltline. According to police: Palmer’s intention was to vandalize, not to steal, police said. “Damage was reported on several floors of the high-rise building,” said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. “Glass was broken, items were pulled off of walls and smeared blood was found in different locations.” Before Palmer allegedly set a fire in an office suite on the fifth floor, he went into the restaurant, scared staff and helped himself to a fountain drink. The fire brought firefighters to the scene, called by police as they searched for the suspect. “The crew from Ladder 6 saw dense smoke in the fifth-floor room and found that a small fire had been extinguished by the automatic fire sprinkler system,” said Joel Kneifel of the MFD. Firefighters evacuated the building and searched the part of the building near the fire to make sure nobody was hurt or trapped. When police officers entered the damaged fifth-floor offices, Palmer was ordered to come out. “He crawled to them alternating between yelling nonsensical things and coughing,” DeSpain said. “Officers pulled him to safety and took him down several flights of stairs as the MFD mopped up the scene.”
Athletic Club/Sports Facility, Other Business Milwaukee, WI – Sprinkler system helps contain fire at family entertainment center September 13, 2016 viking210 Firefighters were able to contain a business fire at 76th and Brown Deer Road early this morning. Crews responded around 3:30 Monday morning. It happened at Kangaroo Milwaukee, a family friendly entertainment facility in a strip mall. Milwaukee Fire Department officials tell us it appears that the sprinkler system helped to contain the fire. No word yet on the cause of the fire.
