Bismarck, ND – Apartment stove-top fire stopped by fire sprinkler system; No injuries reported

The sprinkler system in a Bismarck apartment prevented a fire from spreading Friday afternoon.

The Bismarck Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Crescent Manor Apartments on East Bowen Ave. just after 4:30 p.m.

The department says a fire on a stovetop was prevented from spreading because of the automatic fire sprinkler system and crews were able to completely extinguish the fire.

Bismarck Fire says the occupant of the unit was not home at the time.

The department says all residents were evacuated and were able to return their apartments, except for the unit involved.

No injuries were reported.

Minot, ND – Sprinkler system extinguishes apartment grease fire; No injuries reported

An apartment complex in northwest Minot suffered water damage Sunday on all three floors of the building after a stove top fire caused by overheated cooking grease.

The Minot Fire Department responded to 1250 27th Ave NW at 6:56 p.m. for a stove top fire in an apartment complex.

Firefighters found smoke in the hallway of the building’s third floor with heavy smoke in one apartment.

Crews gained access to the apartment and found that the sprinkler system had activated, and the fire had been extinguished.

Multiple apartments on all three floors of the building suffered water damage from the sprinkler system.

Damage to the building from fire was minor. No injuries were reported.

Fargo, ND – Sprinkler system puts out fire started by malfunctioning hotel water heater

A fire scare at Days Inn & Suites near Hector International Airport in Fargo.

A water heater malfunctioned and started on fire.

Guests were evacuated while fire crews were called to the hotel around 4 Sunday afternoon.

Days Inn operators tell us the sprinkler system put the fire out and it didn’t spread.

The hotel is without hot water until the water heater can be replaced.

That was expected to happen yet tonight.

Grand Forks, ND – Auto dealership fire set by employee stopped by fire sprinklers

Grand Forks police say an employee of an auto dealership was arrested after he deliberately lit some gas on fire which had been spilled on the floor of a shop area.

25-year old Jobe Lunski, of Ardoch, North Dakota, was arrested on a charge of endangerment by fire.

Police say the ignited gas created a significant flash fire that caused minor injuries to another employee and damage to a customer’s vehicle and the building’s structure

Firefighters who responded to Lithia Ford at 2273 32nd Avenue South Wednesday afternoon found the fire has already been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system.

Fargo, ND – Activated fire sprinklers quickly put out fire on third floor of apartment building; No injuries reported

Fargo firefighters responded to a water flow alarm at a 3 story apartment building at 4877 28th Av S.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met by tenants outside saying there was a fire in apartment #301. Crews quickly made their way to the 3rd floor to find that the fire in that unit had been extinguished by the buildings sprinkler system.

3 sprinkler heads were activated to extinguish the fire. Water damage became the next task at hand and efforts were made to shut down the sprinkler system as soon as possible.

There were no injuries and fire spread was limited to the room of origin due to early activation of the 9-1-1 and sprinkler systems and quick actions taken by the first arriving fire crews.

The fire cause is under investigation. No damage assessment is available at this time. City View Property Mgmt. helped the tenants of the damaged apartments by putting them up temporarily in other units that they manage.

An official with the Fargo Fire Department tells us, they got call for white smoke billowing from the third floor of the apartment complex.

By the time they got to the scene, a sprinkler system has already put most of the fire out. The resident of the third floor apartment wasn’t home at the time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There is water damage to apartments below where fire began.

Fire crews are on the scene of a possible fire at an apartment complex in Fargo.

The call came in around 2:30 Friday afternoon on a report of a structure fire on the 4800 block of 28th Ave. S. Smoke is reported on the third floor of the apartment.

A reporter on the scene tells us, there are no visible flames but fire crews appear to be investigating a balcony. A resident tells us, they were evacuated from the building.

Minot, ND – Fire at homeless shelter extinguished by sprinkler system; No injuries reported

An emergency homeless shelter was evacuated Sunday because of a fire. The Minot Fire Department and Police Department say that fire is suspicious. The fire happened shortly after 4 pm on Sunday at the shelter located at 205 3rd Ave SE in Minot. Smoke was coming from the buildings basement laundry room. Water damage is estimated at $5,000. No one was injured. Captain Aaron Peterson with the Minot Fire Department said the buildings sprinkler system extinguished the flames. The shelter was reopened, and evacuated residents were allowed to return. The incident is under investigation.

Grand Forks, ND – Hotel dryer fire extinguished by sprinkler system; No injuries reported

A sprinkler system extinguished a fire at a Grand Forks hotel early Sunday morning.

The fire department says around 4:10 a.m., crews responded to the Expressway Inn and Suites on 11th Avenue South on a water flow alarm.

Arriving crews encountered a light haze coming from the lobby area and discovered that there had been a fire in one of the commercial laundry dryers. The automatic sprinkler system had activated and extinguished it before crews arrived.

Guests and staff had exited safely. No one was hurt.

The fire caused about $10,000 in damages.

The cause of the dryer fire is under investigation.

Fargo, ND – Fire on 14th floor of residential high-rise contained with help from sprinkler system; No injuries reported

An automatic sprinkler helped contain a fire in an apartment on the 14th floor of the 22-story Fargo Lashkowitz High Rise. Firefighters were called to the fire at 101 2nd St. S. at around 6:15 a.m. Saturday. A man inside the apartment was removed to safety and evaluated by FM Ambulance. No one was injured. The Fargo Housing Authority had crews on scene to take over clean up before fire crews had cleared. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Grand Forks, ND – Sprinkler system saves apartment building following cooking fire

An apartment sprinkler system saved a building in Grand Forks after a cooking fire got out of control Friday night. Firefighters say overheated cooking oil was to blame for the fire. Emergency personnel quickly shut off the water to minimize damage. One person was treated for minor injuries.

The full press release can be seen below:  Grand Forks, ND – A fire sprinkler system saved a building at 8 1/2 S. 3rd Street from extensive damage due to overheated cooking oil that caught fire, activating the sprinkler system.

At approximately 8:50pm December 14th, 17 firefighters responded to a fire alarm activation with the report of water flowing in the building. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a sprinkler head had activated over a cooking fire in an apartment unit on the second floor. Firefighters quickly controlled the flow of water and tried to minimize water damage to the apartment and other tenants located in the building.

The apartment occupant sustained some minor injuries related to the cooking fire. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.  Grand Forks Police Department and Altru Ambulance were also on scene assisting.

Fargo, ND – Fire in fourth floor apartment extinguished by sprinkler system; No firefighter or civilian injuries reported

Fargo firefighters responded to a report of an activated fire alarm in an apartment building at 2:55 p.m. at 123 Roberts Street North. The building contains 62 apartments. On arrival, they found a fire in an apartment on the fourth floor.  The fire was contained to a couch in an apartment by the building’s fire sprinkler system. The fire created heavy smoke on the fourth floor; moderate smoke on the third and fifth floors; and, light smoke on the second floor. Because of the couch’s placement in the apartment, the fire caused two sprinkler heads to activate. The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler heads as the crew arrived at the apartment. There was water that needed to be cleaned up on the fourth, third, and second floors.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage is estimated to be approximately $1500.00. There was minor fire damage in one unit, which was limited to the immediate area around a couch. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. The one tenant in the apartment will not be able to stay in the apartment until it is cleaned.
