A box truck parked in the Tri Supply garage apparently caught fire because of an electrical problem. A sprinkler system activated and managed to keep the fire from spreading. The fire was extinguished without any injuries.

Sprinkler system extinguishes church fire set by arsonist (Bellingham, WA)

Local and federal authorities are investigating arson at a Bellingham church. Firefighters found two set fires in the church. A small fire in a hallway was put out by a fire extinguisher. The church’s sprinkler system extinguished a larger fire in the sanctuary.

City of Walla Walla fire fighters, with the assistance of Fire District 4 and College Place Fire Department, responded to a fire in the kitchen and cafeteria area at Blue Ridge Elementary School in Walla Walla. The school’s fire sprinkler system activated to help contain the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Authorities are investigating an Aug. 9 fire at Brookside Elementary that they believe was caused by a hot water heater in the school’s boiler room, Westwood Fire Chief Jaymee Hodges said. “The room’s fire sprinkler kept the fire under control until firefighters could secure the gas,” he said.

A malfunctioning machine at the Solo Cup plant in east Urbana sparked a fire Thursday morning that caused moderate damage.

Urbana Fire Chief Mike Dilley said a combination of sprinkler heads inside the plant and firefirefighters’ hose lines kept the fire from being any worse than it was. All the workers in the plant were safely evacuated.

An apartment fire in Iqaluit caused the evacuation of a large building in the city Friday. Fire crews responded to an alarm at the blue Inuksugait building around mid-morning. By the time they got there, the sprinkler system had extinguished any flames. “We would have been looking at going in there and fighting an active fire in what essentially for us is a highrise building. So we didn’t have to get into that because the sprinkler system did a grand job.”

Hotel laundry room fire contained by sprinkler system (Bakersfield, CA)

More than 400 people were evacuated from the Bakersfield Marriott after a fire broke out in the laundry room. Bakersfield Fire Department crews were sent out to the hotel at about 7:30 a.m. regarding the fire.By the time crews arrived, the fire had been contained by the fire sprinkler system at the hotel. No injuries have been reported. Hotel guest were allowed to return to their rooms about an hour later.

An occupant of the apartment left a candle burning unattended when he left his apartment. The building’s fire alarm was activated and its sprinkler system extinguished most of the blaze within minutes. No injuries were reported.

Fire at uniform services facility controlled by sprinkler system (Fresno, CA)

A fire that erupted at the Aramark Uniform Services facility in east-central Fresno set off sprinklers Tuesday morning. Fire spokesman Sean Johnson said firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes. About 30 workers evacuated the building.
