Sprinklers control high rise fire (Amarillo, TX)

Fire crews were notified of a fire on the 12th floor of a bank plaza building on Tuesday evening. When they arrived, they found the the fire had been controlled by the building’s fire sprinkler system. The fire began in an office area, and it’s cause is under investigation. There were no reported injuries.

A fire began on the 18th floor of a high rise office building on Wednesday at about 6:35 p.m. The fire sprinkler activated in the office where the fire began and confined the flames to that area until fire crews responded. The cause of the fire was a switch in the heating unit, and no injuries were reported.

Sprinklers extinguish fire at newspaper printing press (Madison, WI)

At about 6 p.m. on Friday, May 9, a fire was reported at a newspaper printing press. The fire began in the building’s compressor room, and the fire sprinkler system contained the fire to that room and extinguished it. The company evacuated its near 35 employees safely, and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2, a fire broke out on the ninth floor of a housing complex which houses mostly elderly or disabled tenants. The fire was quickly extinguished by the facility’s fire sprinkler system, and there were no reported injuries.

The fire began on the fifth floor of the building but the sprinkler system contained it until fire crews arrived and suppressed the remaining flames. The fire’s cause remains under investigation; there were no injuries reported.

A fire began on the third floor of a hotel on Wednesday evening when a couch caught on fire. The hotel’s fire sprinkler system went off, and firefighters reported that the sprinklers quick action kept the fire damage to a minimum. The fire’s cause is under investigation.

Sprinklers keep damage minimal in apartment fire (St. Cloud, MN)

On Monday evening, a fire was reported on the second floor of an apartment building. An improperly disposed cigarette ignited the fire, which began on the deck of one of the units. The fire sprinkler system installed in the building ensured that the fire remained on the exterior of the building. Residents were evacuated safely with no injuries reported.

St. Cloud Battalion Chief Leon Faust said, “The sprinklers are what kept damage to a minimum.”

Sprinklers save lives and property in apartment fire (Hendersonville, TN)

An early evening fire erupted in the unit of an apartment when grease caught on fire while the tenant was cooking. The fire flared up, which then activated the fire sprinklers; the sprinklers contained and then eliminated the blaze while the resident and her daughter evacuated the apartment. 

According to Fire Marshal Chuck Swann of the Hendersonville Fire Department, the fire could have been much worse had the sprinkler system not been present to activated immediately. 

“Dry wall (that sustains water damage) can be replaced,” he said. “Lives lost to a fire can’t.”

Sprinklers limit damage at apartment fire (North Charleston, SC)

According to the responding firefighters, a sprinkler system saved an apartment from a fire which began in the kitchen. The Thursday afternoon fire activated the sprinkler system in the kitchen, which then eliminated the blaze. The cause of the fire appears to be unattended cooking materials. There were no injuries reported in the incident.

Fire crews were called to the scene of a retail store after a clothing rack caught fire on Sunday evening. The fire sprinklers in the store eliminated the blaze prior to the firefighters’ arrival. There were no injuries, and the fire’s cause remains under investigation.
