Sprinklers prove effectiveness in apartment fire (Concord, CA)

A fire that started in an apartment the morning of August 14 was quickly limited by the unit’s fire sprinklers and responding fire crews. According to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the fire sprinklers saved the apartment from the fire which most likely began from embers from a barbecue on the balcony. There were no injuries reported.

Fire sprinklers show effectiveness in winery fire (Kenwood, CA)

On the morning of August 14, a fire broke out in a freezer located in a winery. The fire sprinkler contained the flames, leaving little fire damage, according to Fire Captain Daren Bellach. Bellach said, “The sprinklers went off and held the fire in check like they’re supposed to.”There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire sprinkler system helps contain blaze at dry cleaner (Pleasanton, CA)

A dry-cleaning business at a strip mall caught fire Wednesday, but a sprinkler system inside the building kept the blaze from spreading and causing even more damage to the surrounding stores, a battalion chief said. The blaze began around 5:47 p.m.  Fire crews saw heavy smoke coming from the business when they arrived, but the fire sprinklers inside the store were activated after clothes on the conveyor system caught fire, Neiman-Kimel said. Those sprinklers kept the fire at bay until crews were able to get inside and extinguish it, Neiman-Kimel said.

Sprinklers keep apartment aquarium fire in check (Newport Beach, CA)

The fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. at a second-floor unit inside the Baypoint Apartments complex. The residents of the apartment that caught fire were not home when the blaze started, but a fire alarm notified neighbors, according to Newport Beach Fire Captain Glenn White. “Newport Beach Fire investigators initial findings indicate electronic equipment providing power to an aquarium was the cause of this fire,” Glenn said in a released statement. When firefighters arrived on scene they found one room on fire that was “being held in check by the activation of the automatic sprinkler system,” Glenn reported.

Sprinklers aid firefighters at storage facility (Chatsworth, CA)

A fire in a Chatsworth storage facility today was put out by a sprinkler system, with help from firefighters. Two 6-by-8-foot wooden containers were reported on fire at 2:28 p.m., fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. “The containers were stored on tall racks and firefighters used the sprinklers to contain the fire to those crates until they could put it out,” Humphrey said.
