Hillsboro firefighters rushed to an apartment fire after midnight but they didn’t have to put it out: It was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. The fire was caused by an electric wheelchair in one unit and was contained to that apartment.

Lake Havasu City Fire Department firefighters responded Wednesday to reports of black smoke coming from a second-story unit at a condominium complex. “Two sprinkler heads had cooled and knocked the fire down,” Battalion Chief Mike Quijada said. “The fire had started on an overstuffed chair, and we did find some drug paraphernalia.” “No one was injured, and the sprinkler system did its job,” Quijada said.

At about 6:01 p.m., Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services Department got a 9-1-1 call reporting a fire at an apartment on the sixth floor. The fire sprinkler system had successfully activated and put out the fire. No injuries were reported.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, but the fire was quickly put out by the sprinkler system. Resident’s were evacuated as a precaution and later were able to return to their homes. Sprinklers stop middle-of-night apartment fire (Portland, ME)

The sprinkler system at the Cumberland Park Place Apartments helped keep a small fire that started on the third story of the building from causing any significant damage. The Portland Fire Department was called to 457 Cumberland Ave. around 3:30 a.m. when a cigarette lit a small fire on a chair in the living room of on of Cumberland Park Place Apartment’s units. Deputy Chief Robert Wassick said the sprinkler system was a primary factor in preventing the fire from becoming any larger or causing more damage.
