Commercial fire activates sprinkler, prevents fire from spreading to adjacent tenants (Pearland, TX)

** NO MEDIA COVERAGE – FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED **

On August 18, 2014, the Pearland Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial fire alarm on the west side of Pearland where upon arrival, they discovered a sprinkler head activated in a tenant space near the kitchen. The fire started near a wall outlet, traveled up the wall and activated the sprinkler system. The fire sprinkler kept the fire from causing severe damage to the commercial establishment and prevented it from spreading to adjacent tenant spaces and extinguished the fire before the Fire Department arrived.

Art building fire eliminated by sprinkler system (Easthampton, MA)

A fire broke out in the third story of an arts and industry building which housed artwork. The building was equipped with fire sprinklers, which activated and helped halt the flames. According to investigators, the cause is still under investigation, but they believe that oil soaked paper towels combusted and started the fire. There were no injuries reported.

Baseball stadium fire contained by fire sprinkler system (York, PA)

An early morning fire at a concession stand in Santander Stadium was extinguished Saturday with little damage done, said York City Fire Department Chief David Michaels.  A compressor in the cooling unit of the first-base-side concession stand overheated and caught fire around 6 a.m., Michaels said.  He said the fire was contained by the park’s sprinkler system.  The damage was minimal enough that planned events at Santander Stadium were able to go on as normal on Saturday, he said.

“If not for the sprinkler, it would have been a totally different outcome,” Michaels said. “It could have been a significant fire.”

Crews were called to an industrial fire Sunday night inside a plastics recycling plant.  There were no workers in the facility at the time of the fire.  Smoke was visible from a door outside of the facility, but the fire remained inside and was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. The fire suppression equipment worked just as it’s intended, said Sidney fire officials.

Sprinklers limit damage in commercial building fire (South Bend, IN)

Fire crews were dispatched to a fire at 1:30 a.m. Monday at the South Bend/St. Joseph Building Department. The building’s fire sprinkler was operating when they arrived, preventing a large amount of damage.

“The sprinkler head was triggered by the fire in that office,” said Captain Christian Rose of the South Bend Fire Department. “And there was a broken window, so we’re unsure how that happened. So we called the fire investigators out to see whether or not arson was involved, or something else.”

The office was open for business on Monday, and there were no injuries reported.
